I should mention:

Next couple posts might seem random. As notes to myself, I'll post things on my mind, especially with the book I'm reading, then elaborate on my thoughts later. Can't stop reading now though. Too good.

"Who would fare better in this world of fitful time? Those who have seen the future and live only one life? Or those who have not seen the future and wait to live life? Or those who deny the future and live two lives?"

Oh Christ

I'm reading Einstein's Dreams by Alan Lightman. I've only just started. This book is great.

It is really going to screw with me.

Music

Something I was thinking about today while listening to music and doing homework: relativity and music. This is a really weird concept, so bear with me.

Do you ever listen to music, and for whatever reason, feel like the music is playing faster or slower than you know it to be? I sometimes do. I can't comprehend exactly why, but I often detect a distinct change in the tempo. Some reasons I've thought are maybe because I'm tired, or very awake, thus affecting the way I hear the music.

I find this subject very fascinating. Today, I was working on a presentation outline while listening to "The Electric Version" by The New Pornographers. The song is fairly upbeat, yet, as I started the song, I felt it was playing much slower. Perhaps this was because I was very concentrated on the work I was doing? Or maybe because of the large amounts of caffeine I have had today? I really can't say.

Other times, I'll be going to class early in the morning, very tired. I'll turn on my iPod, and notice one of my favorite songs is playing much faster than I remember it to be. Interesting?

Could this be another example of Einstein's theory of relativity? This is my belief. I think this could also be a very subtle flux in time type of thing.

Again, as always this is just speculation.

That's all for now. Thanks for reading.

Video games

I'm not gonna go into a whole lot now, but next time, I'm going to specifically talk about video games that involve time travel. I love video games, and, hell, I love time travel. So naturally, some of these games are my favorites. See you next time.

Oh, and also, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is really really awesome. I've logged about thirty hours in the past six days. Wow. Go play it.

But anyway, time travel video games! I'll post on that next time, maybe even tonight, it's a boring night.

Take care.

The present

Alright kids, something to chew on today: The present. We all think of the present as the state of time we're in. So we're always in the present, right? Now, assume the "present" is the infinitesimal instant of time that we're in. Further, we are always "moving" through time, because time doesn't stop. So, the present is always moving as well. Doesn't that mean we can't refer to the present as a fixed period of time. Anytime you think about the present, in it's purest form, it's already gone.

Let me use this entry as an example. Right NOW I am typing these words. But now, as I reread the word I typed a second ago, that's in the past. No part of this entry is any longer in my present. Each keystroke was a part of the present, yet now a part of the past.

This all sounds incredible useless, I'm sure, and there's not much of a point, but that's ok. We can never really refer to something in the present.

Cheers.
