Music

Something I was thinking about today while listening to music and doing homework: relativity and music. This is a really weird concept, so bear with me.

Do you ever listen to music, and for whatever reason, feel like the music is playing faster or slower than you know it to be? I sometimes do. I can't comprehend exactly why, but I often detect a distinct change in the tempo. Some reasons I've thought are maybe because I'm tired, or very awake, thus affecting the way I hear the music.

I find this subject very fascinating. Today, I was working on a presentation outline while listening to "The Electric Version" by The New Pornographers. The song is fairly upbeat, yet, as I started the song, I felt it was playing much slower. Perhaps this was because I was very concentrated on the work I was doing? Or maybe because of the large amounts of caffeine I have had today? I really can't say.

Other times, I'll be going to class early in the morning, very tired. I'll turn on my iPod, and notice one of my favorite songs is playing much faster than I remember it to be. Interesting?

Could this be another example of Einstein's theory of relativity? This is my belief. I think this could also be a very subtle flux in time type of thing.

Again, as always this is just speculation.

That's all for now. Thanks for reading.
